AI-Generated abstractions created with Midjourney.
This series is based on photographs taken of the angular branching of pine trees at Kaiseisan Daijingu, a Shinto shrine located in Koriyama City in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. These photos are uploaded to Midjourney. Through repeated written prompts, I coaxed Midjourney to create glitch art distortions that bear little resemblance to the original photos that serve as seeds to bias the generated outcome. I avoid the tropes of AI photo-real or surreal or AI fakes. Instead, I use AI to generate multiple iterations aligned with an aesthetic of abstraction open to stochastic serendipty.
